2:30PM (that's 35 minutes before and 25 minutes after
school)
Student
Access to the Library:
Students
may visit the Library anytime during the school day with
a pass from a teacher or other appropriate staff
member.
Students
do not need a pass before or after school
Students
may visit during their lunch period by getting a pass from
the lunch room supervisor. Computer

no open lab time. Student access is only when a
teacher has scheduled a class. The networked computers
in the Library are available by staff sign-up.
Scheduling

Staff members schedule classes to visit the Library and the

Circulation
Automated Circulation System:
Our
library has automated circulation with the Gateway
Library Management System.
The
student picture ID cards that accompany
school pictures include a bar code that enables
them to be used as a library card.
The
validated student picture ID is also used for
permission to access the Internet at school.
All
students are encouraged to have a school picture
taken for the student picture ID card even if they
do not intend to purchase a picture package.
This is especially encouraged for seniors who often
have their school pictures taken by a studio.
There is no charge for the ID picture.
Students:
Students
may check out any circulating materials owned by
the library, which includes books, magazines,
videos, and some computer software. Materials
designated "Reference" or "Prof. Shelf" stay
in-house.
Students
may have any 3 pieces checked out at one time, for
a period of 3 weeks, renewable once.
Students are denied checkout privileges when
they have overdue materials. There is a
charge for damaged, missing, or lost items.
Missing or lost materials are to be paid for at the
current average replacement cost.

Staff:
Staff
members may check out any circulating materials
owned by the library, which includes books,
magazines, videos, and some computer
software. Materials designated "Reference"
stay in-house. Print materials designated
"Prof. Shelf" were purchased particularly with
staff in mind, but may also be checked out by
students. Non print materials designated
"Prof. Shelf" are reserved for staff check out
only.
Staff
may have as many items checked out to them as they
need, for as long as they need.
Teachers
often put collections of materials on reserve for
their students when many must share a limited
number of resources.

Internet
Access
The
Internet is accessible from all of the networked
stations in the Computer Labs, the "technology rich
classrooms," and in the Library.
Student
and staff access to the vast resources of the
Internet is restricted only by the Lapeer Community
Schools Acceptable
Use Policy
which can be found in the student handbook.
For
students and staff to access the Internet, they
must have on file in the Library a signed copy of
the "Lapeer Community Schools; Policy for
Acceptable Use of Computers and Other
Technology." Minor students must also
have a parent/ guardian signature.
Students
who willfully violate the Acceptable Use Policy are
subject to the infraction
procedure which
can also be found in the student handbook.
Once
a student has pledged to abide by the Acceptable
Use Policy, their student picture ID card is
validated to show that they have permission to use
the Internet at school. Only this year's
picture ID will be recognized for a student to have
permission to go on-line. All previous
years' cards, including any temporary cards are
considered expired, and will not be accepted.
The
picture ID card must be out in plain sight for
supervising personnel to see before the user
may access the Internet at school.
A
user who wishes to go on-line, but does not have
their current picture ID card with them, or has
lost the card that was issued may purchase a
temporary card good for one day only, or may
purchase a replacement picture ID card.
Students
who enroll as a student at West after both the
regular and the re-take picture days, and therefore
do not have a picture ID, will be issued a
substitute card.
ID
cards will be replaced at the discretion of
the Librarian.
