Alicia 14, Robert 13, Emily 11, and Andrew 9. They keep us busy, especially since we homeschool. That is how I am able to stay home and still put my teaching degree from U of M to practical use. We love it and I am learning all kinds of history !We have been doing this for 8 years. We like travelling and we've been all over the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii. The best vacations were our trips to England, Wales, and Scotland. We've lived in Sylvan Lake, Grand Blanc, and in 1996 we built our home on Roods Lake Rd. here in Lapeer. On our 8 acres we have an organic(no herbicides, pesticides, hormones,or antibiotics) mini farm. Our animal family includes 2 horses (we ride and drive them), 20 chickens(yes, we eat them), 2 dogs and 5 cats. We also raise a large garden every summer. It is truly a blessing to be a farming family. Hope to see you all at our 20 th reunion, if it doesn't conflict with our vacation to California! |
Butterfield, Dale | Oct 27, 2008 at 07:44:29 | Wow! Lapeer West with its own website - how did that happen?!? After high school, I went to Oakland University for a year and then regrettably to ITT for a couple of years. Then went to U of M for 5 years - graduated with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in computer science and now work as a computer programmer/network administrator at Metamora Products in Metamora, MI. I married my wife Michelle in 1991 and now have three little boys, Justin, Zachary and Nicholas which are currently 14, 12 and 7 years old, respectively. We had our house built a couple of years ago on a beautiful 10 acre parcel in N. Branch, MI. I think back a lot about all the fun times we had at West and really miss the old gang I used to hang with - you know who you are ;) Went to the 20 year reunion - it was great seeing some of the friends again. Money: The passport to everywhere except Heaven and the buyer of all things except happiness.

Then had to join the United States Army's Work for Food program and became a Russian Linguist. Met my husband at Russian school and got married in 1994. I got out, but the hubby stayed in. We have two sons - Alex, now 8 and Zack - 5. Turns out we didn't stay in Ivory Coast but for about a week before a small civil war began, and my children and I were evacuated, never to return. Instead we found ourselves in good ol' Lapeer living with my folks while the hubby did a two-year unaccompanied tour. However, we are in Alexandria, VA as of July 19, 2006, if all goes well. The current plan is to be there for a year, and then off to Kazakhstan with the Defense Attache Service for two years. We'll see how that goes. See you at the 20-year! |

(Scrimger)Kent, Kim | 3/19/2004 at 4:27:18 AM | In December of 1988 I married Jim Kent (also from the class of 1985) and then we moved to Tennessee. I got a job teaching high school chemistry and physics while Jim was working as a computer geek at Vanderbilt University Law School. In December 1996 we became the very proud and more than eager parents of a beautiful daughter named Anna Belle Kent. While we were both very happy with our chosen careers and had many wonderful friends in Tennessee, Anna's arrival made us more eager to return to Michigan. I had always joked with my mom that maybe Mr. (Don) Peterson would retire so I could have his job. In April 2000 Mom called and said she had heard he was retiring. I sent for my application right away. I interviewed for the job just before Memorial Day 2000 and I signed my contract right after. Unfortunately, Mr. Peterson was no longer teaching physics. Jim, Anna, and I packed up our house, had a huge moving sale (since we had accumulated eleven and a half years worth of stuff that couldn't possible fit in one moving truck) and headed back to Michigan. I started teaching physical science and Jim found a job as a computer geek at a law school in Ann Arbor. Since we've been back I've had some of our classmates' children as students in my class. I am really happy to be back in Lapeer and especially happy to be teaching at Lapeer West. Working with several of our former teachers as my colleagues has been a pleasant experience. I still have a hard time calling some of them by their first names. Think about it ... Mr. McCarrick will always be Mr. McCarrick, calling him Bob just doesn't feel right. Anna is a student at Central Elementary in Davison. She is currently in first grade and loving it. Earlier this year she got to meet one of our local police officers. You probably remember him. His name is Sergeant Robert Govitz. He gave her something very special that could become a real collector's item one day. She has a genuine Sergeant Robert Govitz policeman trading card. As Anna says, "It is sooooo cool!"

Miller, Scot | Jun 20, 2007 at 08:20:42 | Hey everyone, I didn't graduate with the class of '85, but I spent quite a few years with all of you, better known as Meatball, or "albondiga" in Spanish. I moved down to the Detroit area in 84, and then moved into the inner-city a few years later and got myself into all sorts of trouble. Anarchy, pirate radio, and quite a few arrests. Of course, I turned it all around and I am now a Quaker preacher attending graduate school at Earlham College, adn living on an Ohio farm. I am married to a great woman, Jenn, and I have five children, Kellen (18), Dylan (15), Emma (10), Rosa )5), and Micah (2). We were doing work with the homeless population of Grand Rapids before moving to Ohioana for school. We plan to return to West Michigan in 2008, where I will finish up an MSW degree, and we will run a farm for at-risk mothers and children. I have given up on rich and famous. Feel fre to contact me, or visit my blog if you won't be threatened by radical theology and pacifism. www.rscotmiller.blogspot.com Blessings to all of you from Lapeer.

Pearce, Chris | May 24, 2007 at 13:35:43 | Hey, everybody... The Commodore is alive and well, and living in Texas. Unfortunately, my grandiose dreams of becoming a mad scientist came to naught as I spent several years in the Michigan Tech college of snow, cold and everlasting darkness, and came out a computer scientist instead. Having had my fill of winter at that point, I proceeded (somewhat) directly to Texas, where I now while away my hours at Lockheed Martin, and they pay me (!) to play with cool toys for hours on end. Which, in the end is almost as much fun as mad science. And the pay is better. Best of all ... it rarely snows!

Raymond, Kirk | 3/10/2000 at 7:36:54 PM | After graduation, I joined a traveling circus as a fire-eater. The work was difficult but I met lots of interesting people and it allowed for a socially acceptable outlet for my latent pyromania. Sadly, there really are limits to job satisfaction in the carney community also, a slight butane mix-up resulted in a (now thanks to several plastic surgeries) a barely noticeable scar running lengthwise across my forehead which precluded me from a syndicated TV deal the circus had set up with the nascent FOX network. Seeking more meaning from life, I traveled extensively through Central and South America eventually ending up studying the teachings of the noted Zen Buddhist monk Jonah Goldstein in his monastery/casino on Tierra Del Fuego. I really was able to delve deeply into my soul there (as well as learned to deal a mean game of blackjack.) The siren song of the good old USA drew me home in the early-90's when I began a career in retail pharmaceutical sales which ended with my accepting an invitation from a distant Uncle to spend several years manufacturing license plates in relative peace. Fully rehabilitated, I moved to San Jose, CA and founded Yippee!, an Internet search engine portal and dry cleaners. After a successful IPO had left me financially stable, I turned to philanthropic work helping underprivileged kids discover the joys of outdoor camping in a very small tent. I would love to hear from any of you who remember the old days as my memory of the high school years tends to be a bit clouded. I can be reached at stranger@candy.com.

Schoendorff, Tom | Aug 12, 2005 at 18:20:54 | Hello all. Upon reflecting that this would be our 20th H.S. reunion, I did a quick search and found this web-site.... but alas, no 20th reunion is in the works! Kind of sad but there is always the next decade, right? I am now living in Chicago with my wife and two girls (5 & 2yrs old), and while I love this city, I do miss Lapeer - especially Lake Lapeer. It was a great place to grow up and I have great memories of many of you. Sadly I haven't kept up w/ many you since H.S. but I do talk to Andy Saunders on occasion. Peace and take care.

(Meloche)Thelen, Tracey | 6/27/2000 at 10:43:23 PM | Well hello everyone! Got wind of this through Tammy (Jones) Martus. Pretty neat. I was wondering when the 15 year party was... Sounds like a nice dinner and a trip to the beer tent! But first...I graduated Ferris in 1990 and went to work in the graphic arts field. Met my hubby at Ferris. He graduated 1991, the same year we were married. We have 3 terrific boys; Taylor,5, Kevin,3, and Brendan who will be a year on Aug. 16. (And NO, I'm not trying for a girl!) My favorite pastimes are hotwheels, soccer, and trying to fix whatever my boys break. After living in Lansing for a year, we moved to Waterford. My hubby is a program manager for Bosch in Farmington Hills and after Kevin was born I left my graphic designer position at Kelly Services in Troy and entered the REAL workforce: I became a stay-at-home Mom. Toughest and most rewarding job I will ever have:) It is nice to see you doing well and I look forward to seeing all of you at the reunion. If anyone wants to say hello...thelenfam@aol

Weingartz, Brian | Nov 30, 2004 at 17:14:18 | I moved to Greenville, North Carolina in 1988 and have been here ever since. I do a lot of things to keep busy. I am the commissioner of the Little League Baseball program here. My wife Ann (Lapeer East '87)spend virtually the entire year administrating a program which has close to 600 kids ages 5-12 playing baseball. We have 4 ballfields (one of which I spend day after day manicuring and taking care of) in three different city parks. I can't tell you how much joy I get out of watching our kids play baseball. Our leagues play about 40 games a week, six days a week. We also have a 10 team fall league and a Saturday fall instructional program for the little ones. We have a 7 year old little girl who plays also and I think is going to be a good little player some day. I am beginning my 15th year as a high school basketball referee. I was able to work the boy's and girls quarterfinals in 2002 which was a lot of fun. I just finished my 14th year a s a high school football official and got to work the state finals in 2002. Since East Carolina University is in our hometown I have been fortunate enough to get the job as scoreboard operator at all men's and women's basketball games at the university. I also run the 25 second play clock at all home football games. It is a lot of fun. Our basketball arena seats 8,000 and our football stadium seats 42,000. I'm not getting rich but sports are a part of my life every day. I also still follow my beloved Detroit Tigers by satellite dish and TIVO all season long.
