| 1977 | Baird, Chris | Jan 22, 2006 at 20:28:36 | After graduating from Lapeer West I attended Oklahoma Christian College for one year, majoring in art. Durring the 77-78 school year several friends and myself were booked to see the Sex Pistols in Tulsa Oklahoma (during their only US tour), but a freak snowstorm shut down all the roads and we never got to Tulsa. VERY REGREATFUL! I returned to Lapeer and worked as a custodian at Lapeer East for about a year, saving money for my education. I took away many very funny stories from that year as a custodian. I enrolled in Grand Valley State University (Grand Rapids, MI) as a film major and graduated in 1983. After graduation I stayed in GR managing Public Relations and Marketing services for different agencies. While in GR I also wrote for "Grand Rapids Magazine", "On The Town" and the "Grand Rapids Press". I continued to make films and won first place for a documentary and a music video that I produced. Around 1986 I co-founded “The T-Bones” a blues rock band that became well known in west Michigan and Chicago. We played at Cabaret Metro (Chicago) several times and opened for BB King, Charlie Daniels, Johnny Winter and others. Eventually we releases a CD, "Stripped To The Bone", on Snake Handler Records and got radio play on independent stations in Europe and the USA. With video projects, music, writing and a full time job I was a busy little bee - for a while anyway. I also did publicity for a John Waters (Director of Hair Spray, CryBaby, and Pecker) speaking engagement in GR. After the event a few of us went out and partied with John after the program - MANY interesting memories. As the economy crashed in late 80's early 90's my band broke up, my girl friend left and I looked for change. I sold most of my belongings and moved to the Peoples Republic of China in 1991. Believe it or not, it is true! I worked with an American CPA helping western companies open business operations in China. After that I got a position with Internet Services Corp. as Asia Regional Manager and oversaw operations for China, Hong Kong, Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, South Africa and India. I got to do an awful lot of traveling and learned a hell of a lot about the world and myself. While in China I meet my wife who is Chinese and now a US citizen. We moved back to the good old USA in 1999 and I began working as Sr. Manager of Marketing and Communications for a high-tech start up outside of the Washington DC area. Spending almost eight years traveling and living in developing countries wore me out. I feel like I am still recovering. I am just now starting to work on music again and am starting a new script project. What is in the future ??? only God knows. |
